Las Vegas Love Stories
Design
Animation
It only takes 8.2 seconds to fall in love. So, for MGM’s launch of a new hotel in Las Vegas, we made a series of 8.2 second films. Each whimsical, but relatable, love story was created in collaboration with Academy Award-winning director Michel Gondry (Eternal Sunshine of a Spotless Mind) and his brother, music film director, Olivier Gondry. Our goal with the titles was to make them both modern, and fantastically nostalgic.

To match the whimsical and fantastically nostalgic feeling of the films, we needed titles that looked modern, while injecting the warmth and character of the era. We took inspiration from the colors and type design of title sequences from films in that era.

I wanted to add the warm character that was consistent with the technology of the era. I went into deep detail and didn’t stop at simply applying a film filter, some film noise and dust. I rigged a digital simulation to mimic things like; inconsistencies in light source; projector movement, from spinning film reels; shakiness from manual operation of equipment; focus issues from slightly misaligned lenses; and, chromatic aberration.
